The MuZineuM is an unoffical zine filled with content created and crafted by NHM staff.
What is a zine?
Zine is short for magazine. And its just a small, self-published little guy.
What is the "NHM Prep-Time Publication"?
It's our publisher name. Gallery hosts and interpreters all get "prep time" to do research and work on programming and projects. The MuZineUm and the Spider Book were my prep-time projects, hence the name.
Do all submissions get published?
Yes, they do. As long as they are safe for work.
Where can I get copies of past NHM Prep Time Publications?
For now you can just email me, Anna, and I'll get one to you. Anna.Campomanes(at)gmail.com
How did the MuZineuM start?
The MuZineuM started as a branch-off of my obsessive project dubbed “The Spider Book” (as anyone who happened upon the Docent Library in Education between September and November knows.) Thinking the Spider Book was a great success I really wanted to make another “NHM Prep Time Publication” but really lacked the energy to go headfirst into another new project. Then, I looked around and noticed all these cool people I work with (not for the first time ha!) and saw a resource for a NEW kind of publication. Thus the Collaboration “Natural History MuZineuM” was born!
The first publication was a great success largely in part to the enthusiasm of the Program Staff in Education as well as one lonely R&C submission. Pictures of the first issue can be seen here.
It was really great fun and really --get cheesy time-- heart-warming to see everyone be creative and show off their talents in this awesome medium.
Anyone and everyone is invited to submit a page (or two if you are so inclined). Submissions are accepted on a rolling basis and are published once I get enough!
